What is it like to be an intern at Verve? In this blog, our Account Executive Miriam, who joined the team on our intern programme, shares her experience.


It’s your first day of university and graduation seems such a far and blurry light at the end of the tunnel. But those three years fly by pretty fast and that “light” suddenly appears as unexpected as a sunny day in London.

What now?

I promised myself I’d only apply for opportunities that I was genuinely interested in and I was lucky enough to receive an offer to join an internship at Verve (which I happily accepted!). Coming from a background in journalism, I knew I wanted to get some experience in the creative industry, but I wasn’t sure what to expect from this role.


Preparing for my interview, I checked what Verve meant. According to the Cambridge Dictionary, the word “verve” is a synonym for enthusiasm and energy. A definition that, I found, describes the agency well.

From the first few days, I was genuinely surprised to see how everyone was proud to be a part of this agency and how my colleagues, regardless of their role, were very friendly and down to earth. Moreover, I liked the mix of people in terms of their backgrounds and nationalities.

During my first meetings, I remember it felt intimidating to speak up in front of people with more experience than me. However, I found that everyone was not only open to listening to what I had to say but also actively encouraged me to share my opinions.

Internships are sometimes associated with doing photocopies or making coffees and teas for the office. Well, I’m delighted to say that Verve is nothing like this stereotype! 

During these six months, I was involved in a wide variety of projects, including:

  • Working closely with the design team during creative briefs and feedback sessions
  • Taking an active part in client meetings 
  • Liaising with printers, developers, video editors, and other suppliers 
  • Helping organise an international event in Bucharest 
  • Assisting in the creation of an eLearning module, a website, and countless marketing materials in different languages 
  • Taking part in email marketing campaigns from start to finish: brief, creation, delivery, and performance measurement 
  • Learning to use key platforms such as Mailchimp, Google Analytics, and WordPress
  • Supporting the creation of ellaOne’s pharmacy campaign. I even got to be on stage with the winning team at the 2020 OTC Marketing Awards

Working in a fast-paced environment can be tricky from time to time, especially when everything is urgent and the clock hands seem to compete against Usain Bolt. During the first weeks, it was tricky to understand my priorities and to work under pressure. But having approachable people around me really helped.

I also learnt that healthcare marketing is a much bigger industry than I thought. It’s fascinating to see people from different backgrounds come together to create great projects – and be a direct part of that process.

Finally, Verve helped me become more comfortable around dogs. I still haven’t petted our office dog Evie, but it will be my personal challenge as soon as we get back to the office!


The internship experience may now be over, but not my days at Verve. I have now been employed as an Account Executive! The road is still long but I’m thrilled to see how much I will grow in the months ahead.
