HUMAN-FIRST PRESENTING: HOW PEER PRESSURE POWERED OUR MOST PERSONAL LEARNING JOURNEY YET.

What happens when you ask your whole agency to explore the best presentation techniques, then put them on the spot to present on any topic, and show what they have learned?

You get calls to arms for universal umbrella licences, sugar snap pea life lessons, skydiving metaphors, journeys out of North Korea, and some very heartfelt (and some hilarious) presentations.

Our latest L&D agency-wide challenge, choreographed by Jules Herbert, was to: master some top-notch presentation techniques. Then get up and show everyone what you’ve got. Read the full blog to discover more!

The Topics: Unexpected, Unfiltered, Unforgettable

The team had free rein to choose any topic. The result? A showcase of authenticity, humour, and passion. These included:

  • Heather kicked things off with a nerve-calming breathwork session
  • Verity taught us life lessons via her garden’s sugar snap peas
  • Sophie shared the terror before skydiving and the calm after the leap
  • Grace took us on a gripping journey out of North Korea using live mapping and movement
  • Charlie shared her passion for Girlguiding
  • Miriam tackled stage fright by creating warmth and human connection (and nearly broke into song…)
  • And Michael delivered a hilarious call to arms for umbrella licences to be handed out… and taken away
  • Every single team member brought their passions to life with humour and heart

The Techniques: What We Learned

This wasn’t just about speaking, it was about experimenting, practicing and learning from each other.

Here are just a few of the excellent techniques used:

  • Start strong: cold opens, bold (sometimes shocking) stats, surprising questions
  • Structure it well: use a classic story arc presenting a situation, complication, solution
  • Use a visual motif: anchor your message with recurring images or phrases
  • Show yourself: speak with honesty, vulnerability, even nerves
  • Stay present: breathe, pause, slow down and keep a pace to command the room
  • Make it visual: props, maps, movement, and imagery help messages land and resonate

Why Presenting to Peers Supercharges Learning

There’s something about presenting to your inner-circle that changes everything.

  • The stakes feel higher, but the space feels safer
  • You’re more exposed but also more supported
  • You absorb more because you know you’ll have to share it back

One person summed it up:

“I actually enjoyed it after dreading it for so long. I’m really keen to do more like this!”

What’s Next?

This wasn’t a one-off. Human-first presenting is something we’ll keep practising and keep bringing into our client’s work.

Because whether you’re talking about sugar snap peas or strategy, great presenting starts with real connection.

Why Independent Agencies Out-Innovate Networks in 2025
Independent healthcare communications agencies are continuing to break barriers in 2025, proving themselves as a driving force in shaping the future of healthcare marketing. Their ability to innovate faster, adapt to change, and deliver personalised client experiences sets them apart from their networked counterparts. But why are these nimble, independent agencies, such as Verve, leading the charge?
WHY VERVE IS THE GO-TO AGENCY
In the world of healthcare communications, true connection is rare. At Verve, we bridge the gap between science and human experience to create campaigns that not only deliver results but resonate deeply. We call it ‘Science, Humanised’. We understand that healthcare is about more than data or regulation, it’s about people. That’s why everything we create is designed to inform, inspire, and make an impact.
